About this calculator
The YouTube CPM Calculator works out the cost per thousand views (CPM) for a video or ad campaign, based on total spend and total views.
How is CPM calculated?
CPM (Cost Per Mille, "mille" being Latin for thousand) is calculated as: CPM = (Total Cost ÷ Total Views) × 1000. It tells you how much is being spent, or earned, for every 1,000 views a video receives.
Why does CPM matter?
For advertisers, CPM is a way to compare the cost-efficiency of different campaigns or platforms. For creators, CPM (and the related RPM figure YouTube reports in Analytics) is one of the main drivers of ad revenue, and it fluctuates based on audience location, content niche, time of year, and advertiser demand — CPMs are typically higher in categories like finance and lower in categories like gaming, for example.
