The Download Time Calculator estimates how long a file will take to download, based on the file size and your connection speed.
How is download time calculated?
Download time is calculated as file size divided by download speed: Time = File Size ÷ Download Speed. The key thing to watch is units — internet speeds are usually advertised in megabits per second (Mbps), while file sizes are usually shown in megabytes (MB), and 1 byte equals 8 bits, so speeds need to be converted before dividing.
Why does the estimate not always match reality?
Your advertised internet speed is a maximum, not a guarantee — actual throughput is affected by network congestion, Wi-Fi signal strength, server-side limits on the file host, and other devices sharing your connection. Treat the calculator's result as a best-case estimate rather than an exact prediction.
